Our History
Medivance was incorporated in 1998 to develop and commercialize proprietary technology addressing unmet clinical needs in the field of Targeted Temperature Management™. The Company is based in Colorado and develops, manufactures and sells products that are designed to improve patient outcomes through precise control of core body temperature after traumatic medical events.
Prior to development of Medivance’s first product, key employees spent six months working with and observing physicians utilizing temperature management in their treatment of critically ill patients. The input from these experiences resulted in a clear set of user requirements for the development of a new generation of temperature management solutions. These basic requirements focused on safety, ease of use, efficiency and precision, and have become the guiding principles of Medivance’s product development philosophy.
In 2001, Medivance introduced its first temperature management product in the United States. The product was designed to warm patients during complex surgical procedures such as open heart surgery. The technology was quickly adopted by over fifty hospitals based upon its performance compared to traditional temperature management systems, and its potential to reduce both complications and costs. In 2003, Medivance chose to focus its resources on the larger and clinically more important therapeutic cooling market and licensed the warming technology to Kimberly-Clark Healthcare Corporation.
Medivance’s flagship product, the Arctic Sun® Temperature Management System, was introduced in 2004 and is now used in over 90% of the leading cardiac hospitals and 70% of the leading neuro hospitals as ranked by U.S. News and World Report. Well over one thousand Arctic Sun Systems have been placed and tens of thousands of patients successfully treated. The Arctic Sun is marketed in the U.S. and 42 international markets.
In addition to innovative product solutions, Medivance has developed unique training, education and customer service programs that are unmatched in the industry.
