ArcticGel Pads Design
The Arctic Sun provides a highly efficient non-invasive method of cooling or rewarming patients. The combination of the Arctic Sun Control Module and ArcticGel Pads were designed to simulate water immersion. The ArcticGel Pads have a three layer construction. An inner hydrogel layer, an ultra-thin middle layer, through which the water circulates at high velocity, and an outer insulating foam layer, which prevents heat loss. Hydrogel is a biocompatible, pH balanced, skin-friendly material that provides uniform skin contact for
high thermal conduction.
The ArcticGel Pads offer an entirely different approach to surface cooling. With conventional water blankets or wraps, air is trapped between the cooling source and the skin. The patient is then cooled by cold air (convection). The ArcticGel Pads are applied directly to the patient's skin to provide direct thermal conduction through the skin. Temperature controlled water circulates at a high velocity through the ArcticGel Pads, resulting in efficient heat exchange from the water to the patient.
Leak-Proof Technology™
Water circulates under negative pressure, which minimizes the risk of leakage in case of accidental pad puncture. This flow pattern enables a thin pad design, making the pads more comfortable for the patient and less cumbersome for nurses to administer patient care.
